You have transformed this person from being incarcerated to being a productive citizen and to me that is priceless.

~Partakers Mentor

Partakers works to open doors and opportunities for so many people who may never have realized or known their true potential. People incarcerated in several Massachusetts’ prisons have the chance to take college courses and earn their degree. For many this may be their first formal higher education experience. Partakers provides academic support through mentoring teams that assist these students with their studies. Our Mentors also build an important trusting relationship that encourages and supports students as they go through the growth process of obtaining their degrees.

Our Work

Partakers advances the education of women and men in prison and bridges the divide that separates those inside and outside of prison.  Partakers supports Massachusetts prison education by coordinating teams of volunteers who mentor incarcerated women and men as they pursue higher education through the Boston University Prison Education Program, the Tufts Prison Initiative, the Emerson Prison Initiative, and The Boston College Prison Program. Through our College Behind Bars Mentoring Program, incarcerated men and women enhance the skills critical to completing a college degree, build trusting personal relationships, and become empowered with a stronger sense of self and hope for their future while significantly increasing their chances for success when they return to their community.

Re-Entry

Recognizing that through our successful and impactful mentoring model there was an opportunity to address the needs of women and men being released from prison without access to resources. To that end, Partakers is proud to collaborate with the Brandeis Educational Justice Initiative in establishing a unique reentry program- The Partakers Empowerment Program, PEP. In partnership with Brandeis University, PEP provides workshops that focus on the vital topics of access and use of technology, financial literacy, civic re-engagement, career and job readiness, professionalism, education, and wellness to provide support and hope to returning citizens.

I am so very grateful to you. You have provided me with one of the biggest stepping stones in my life. Thank you.
